Larry D. Johnson, 71, of Decatur went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at his home.
Funeral services celebrating Larry’s life will be 11:00 am. Monday, March 21, 2016 at First Christian Church
(3350 N. MacArthur Road, Decatur, Illinois 62526). Visitation will be 9:30 to 11:00 am Monday at the church.
“ Remembering the Ride” Motorcycle Hearse by Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care invites all of Larry’s
Biker friends to join in the procession to Fairlawn Cemetery from the church.
Larry was born in February of 1945 in Decatur. He was the youngest of four children born to Hubert and Izola F.
Johnson. He had a twin brother, Gary Lee.
He worked at Red Barton Welding in both machining and fabrication. He then worked for Firestone Tire for 30
years until his retirement in 2001. He was a millwright and worked in the tool crib where he fabricated machine
He was a member of First Christian Church, a member of Local 713 through Firestone, and a member of the
Macon 8 Masonic Lodge for thirty-nine years. Larry loved to hunt, fish and camp. He also liked to follow
NASCAR and go to Eldora Speedway to check for Tony Stewart. He liked to work on small engines and sharpen
chainsaws. The highlight of his day was spent at Diamond’s Restaurant drinking coffee with his buddies and
teasing the waitresses. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved his “Bumble Bee” 650 Honda.
Larry leaves his wife, Nancy, brother, Keith (Jacquie) Johnson, sister, Ruth Ann (Phil) Revis, his daughters,
Karry (Rob) Nytko, Yvonda Johnson, Tanya (Mike) Bowles, his step-daughter, Tracy (Brad) Cook and step-son,
Toby Short. He also leaves eleven grandsons, three granddaughters, a great grandson, several nephews, nieces
Larry was preceded in death by his father, mother, his twin brother, Gary Lee Johnson and his son,
Larry Johnson Jr.
