Ivan H. “Ike” Sparling, 83 of Decatur died 4:21 a.m. Saturday October 24, 2015 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Funeral service celebrating his life will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 29, 2015 at Hillside Bethel Tabernacle (3575 Greenhill Road Decatur, IL. 62521)
with Rev. Don Horath officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. Burial with Military Rites will be in Keller Cemetery Lovington,
IL. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
Ike was born in June of 1932 in Mattoon IL, son of Roscoe and Nellie Sparling. He married Fern Loretta Stinson in December of 1953. She died in March of
1991. He married Jean Hanners in July of 1994. She died in December of 2006. Ike retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company and was former owner of
Plaques and Knacks in Bethany. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and a
lifetime member of the VFW.
Surviving are his children, Rocky (Dianna) Sparling, El Reno, OK., Teresa Carnahan, Decatur, Penny (Frank) May, Conroe, TX., eight grandchildren, seven
great grandchildren, sister, Opal (Sid) Manning, Shelbyville, IL., various nephews, nieces, step children and step grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, two wives, son, Ivan W. Sparling, six brothers and three sisters.
